heart of Mrs. Rabbit. So, I recently prepped most of a seedbed and put in spinach seeds.
Once the bed was cleared of leaves, weeded, and raked, I used this special hoe to make rows. I plant dense in my seedbeds, so these rows are only 6 inches apart. Why 6 inches? That's the recommended spacing of spinach plants in a row on the seed packet.
Also, about this hoe... It only gets used for this one purpose, never for actual hoeing or weeding. This is another tool that came from my father. It's not old, but it is uniquely shaped.
Here's the seedbed, ready to accept seeds. Again, there's nothing picturesque or fancy about how I plant seeds. Just a middle-aged man bent over in his garden, dropping seeds in a furrow one by one. I usually hike up my pants and cinch my belt so my neighbors don't get an eyeful of butt crack. Unless I'm in overalls, which I believe exist so that farmers (and their family) don't have to worry about that.
And here's the completed bed, furrows filled and tamped down gently with the rake and ready for a watering. That's really all there is to planting seeds in the garden.
