Catching Up

The past two weeks have been busy, in and out of the garden.  We've also had some pretty fantastic springtime weather recently.  This
weekend was spectacular, sunny with highs just touching 80.  It was a joy to be outside doing anything, even weeding.  I did spend a good bit of time harvesting, so I'm going to do a run-down of harvests over the last 2 weeks.  Above we've got some lettuce, radishes, strawberries, snow peas, and the last 2 asparagus spears harvested this year.
Shelling peas, one huge diakon radish, and more snow peas.  The snow pea crop has been ridiculous. You'll see...
Shelling peas, snow peas, sugar snap peas, and some more radishes.
More snow peas and more radishes.
This was a massive harvest from this weekend.  That's easily 5 pounds of snow peas in the middle, and a full basket of shelling peas.  And, naturally, more radishes.  Mrs. Rabbit helped me shell the peas. We had more than a quart of shelled peas.
Finally, a decent harvest of sugar snap peas...my wife's favorite.

The fridge is full of these three types of peas right now.  I have another week or two of pea harvests, and then they will be done.  Pea plants will depart the garden.  They'll be replaced by peppers, kale, and squash.

  1. YUM! Love all those gorgeous peas! Our pea season so far is a bust, but we'll go pick at the local farm to stock up for winter.

    1. A local farm where you can pick your own peas sounds great. We have strawberry farms in our area, but no peas.

  2. Peas! Love it! Around here pea season is extremely short lived. I can't wait to have them fresh again and your pics have me drooling!

    1. Last year I was able to pull off a small fall harvest of peas as well...something I will try to do again this year.

  4. All those peas look amazing! Our favourite around here are sugar snaps - but our pea plants are only a few inches tall so we still have a ways to go.

    1. Sugar snaps are great...I prefer them raw vs. cooked. They are also the first choice of the neighborhood rabbits.
