The 2015 Garden

The 2015 version of the Beware of Rabbits Garden is in full spring swing.
The strawberry patch is pumping out more berries than we can eat, much of that success thanks to the weed-pulling efforts of Mrs. Rabbit.  The
worst weeds we get in the patch are wild strawberries. Birds come to eat the ripe fruit and crap out wild strawberry seeds while they're there.  The wild plants look so similar to their full-size cousins that its tricky to tell the difference.
The asparagus bed has been very productive, producing enough for our family of four to have asparagus as a side dish 2 or 3 times a week. One of the crowns has actually grown outside of the confines of the bed.  Freedom!
Peas are the star of the main garden right now. These snow pea plants are now taller than me.
We have 3 rows of peas...shelling, sugar snaps, and the previously mentioned snow.
Over-wintered garlic and onions are in the center of this picture, with fava beans in the background.
Here's the garden on paper.  It will change, but this is what's happening right now.  There are a few things that I didn't put on the map...a kale plant that survived the winter, and a number of places where I missed harvesting small potatoes last year that then sprouted this spring.
This is a typical harvest these days. The spring garden is a real pleasure, full of hope and new life. It's also really nice to be outside without oppressive heat and humidity.

  1. Wow that is a lot of pea plants. You will be inundated. And those strawberries look wonderful. A squirrel stole my first one. I'm hoping to get some soon though.
